The urbanSHED International Design Competition challenges the global design community to create a new standard of sidewalk shed design and develop a prototype worthy of today’s New York City. One solution that I find interesting is the Urban Umbrella design by Young Hwan Choi, with Andrés Cortés, AIA, and Sarrah Khan, PE, of Agencie Group. Design team members also include Will Robinette, Todd Montgomery and Zachary Colbert. The solution is structural & provides a design element by breaking up the once drab construction space.
