Restorative Design

Jeffrey Bruce, FASLA, finds new applications for erosion and water control fabrics. One area where the fabric industry can contribute is in developing geotextile wall systems for holding plantings in place against buildings or as stand-alone structures.

Working with local landscape architect Terry Guen and with The Gustafson Group based in Seattle, Jeffrey L. Bruce & Co. provided soil and irrigation design for the rooftop landscape resolution in areas of Chicago’s Millennium Park. Applied research and holistic designers are forging the green design investment.

This is an investment in our future, with building materials that will harness and incorporate sustainable efficiencies. Yes, this sound really futuristic. But guess what, it’s already happening in today’s designs & is absolutely necessary for the survival of urban culture.

Interactive 3D PDF files look exactly like the original 3D design, regardless of the application used to create it or the environment in which it’s viewed. This enables improved communication and faster decision-making, which helps reduce design errors, improve quality, and increase productivity.

What I’ve personally have found by utilizing the 3-D pdf format is it is an extremely useful tool that stream lines the early design phases of a project.  By refining the detail & defining the design intent early on many projects have had a noticeably greater success rate.

Electroluminescent Lamp

   Electroluminescent Lamp, or EL, is a flat flexible plastic lamp that wraps around corners and uneven surfaces. This product is cool to the touch and meets UL as well as other agency safety requirements. These systems are available in custom lengths as well as by the roll. They are flexible enough to wrap around corners or uneven surfaces. The Electroluminescent Lamp is designed to withstand high impact or pressure but not abrasion. I wonder what are the lamberts ratings for this product, from the picture it seems the environment light is very control. Even so very useful in decorative accent lighting & flexible enough to create the unexpected.
