Once again Montreal based designer Ying Gao has introduced us to a fusion of fashion and technology. The two piece collection, entitled Incertitudes, incorporates sound activated technology, a collaboration with interactive artist Simon Laroche. Through the motion of dress-maker pins the garments are meant to “engage the spectator on a conversational level, which is filled with misunderstanding(s) and uncertainty.”
The garments are made from PVDF, dressmaker pins and electronic devices. The dress maker pins create a metallic-like fringe, that due to the imbedded technology, is able to sense and respond to the wearer’s voice. The result is a wave-like ripple in the garment, causing it to contract and expand the entire outfit.
This collection by Ying Gao takes interaction to a new level. While the concept is very deep, the results are flexible and forward thinking. Movement creates curiosity. Curiosity creates investigation and CONNECTION.
