Velcro vs. Gecko feet

Nature provides some interesting case studies in adhesion, such as gecko lizard feet. For those who don’t know, a gecko’s feet are covered in hairs so tiny that they stick with whatever they come in contact with. Not only is the bond strong, it also peels off and reattaches with ease. A bio-inspired reversible adhesive that does not damage conjoining materials, this is a large detail on the small scale. Look out Velcro, here comes the gecko.

And who knows, retail & commercial products of the future may be held together with technology derived from gecko feet.
